Smoke of Purification and Renewal

The Essence: 
White Sage (Salvia apiana) bundles are tied from whole leaves, dried and 
burned as sacred smoke. Native to the American Southwest, this plant 
has long been honored for its sharp, earthy fragrance and its power to 
cleanse and bless. Its smoke is said to clear stagnant energy, protect the 
spirit and invite renewal.

Of Its Use:
Light the tip of the bundle and let the smoke drift through a space, 
around tools, or over the self. Use in ritual to release negativity and 
prepare for new beginnings. Extinguish carefully and reuse until the 
bundle is spent.

White Sage is aligned with the element of Air, resonates with Jupiter, and 
is often associated with the zodiac signs of Sagittarius and Virgo.

For many Indigenous peoples of North America, sage bundles are used in 
smudging ceremonies to purify body, mind, and spirit. In European 
folklore, sage was linked to wisdom and longevity, with the saying: “Why 
should a man die whilst sage grows in his garden?” Today, White Sage 
bundles are burned to clear heaviness and invite renewal—reminding us 
that smoke is both cleansing and connective.
